Important roadworks information
A1 southbound entry slip road closure at the A1/A47 Wansford junction (west of Peterborough) and single lane closure for drainage improvement work.
We plan to carry out essential drainage improvement work on the A1 southbound between the A1/A47 Wansford junction and Wansford. This length of A1 is prone to flooding, and the improvements will help restore drainage function and reduce the risk of future flooding.
We plan to carry out this work over six weeks from Tuesday 1 September 2026, weeknights only, between 8pm and 6am, weather permitting.
No work will be carried out on:
- Tuesday 8 to Friday 11 September 2026
- Thursday 8 to Friday 9 October 2026
Closures and diversions
To carry out the work safely, we will require a single lane closure of the A1 southbound and closure of the entry slip road at the A1/A47 Wansford junction.
While the slip road is closed, drivers wishing to join the A1 at Wansford will be diverted:
- eastbound along the A47 onto Nene Parkway
- at Hampton Roundabout take the third exit
- rejoin the A1 at Fletton Parkway Interchange.
Emergency service vehicles will be able to access the works location where required.
